Weba - Supporting small business in Edmonton sin 1982

WeBA News

Greetings to the purveyors of Free Enterprise.

Rendel Elock

Small business is the backbone of any economy and I consider it an absolute privilege to serve the business community of Edmonton as the president of the West Edmonton Business Association. It is not possible to overstate the importance of both the local community and government support for small business.

First, I would like to thank our out going President, Brad Abel and out going Past President, Rob Tinga for the outstanding job in their respective offices. Their dedication coupled with the dedication of the entire board has made the 40th year of WeBA a great success.

Looking ahead to my year as President, I would like WeBA to focus on membership engagement with not only business people but also local governments. Through our breakfast or lunch events and the signature WeBA Golf Tournament collaboration of government and business is essential for a healthy economy. Like a rising tide lifts all boats, a rising economy will lift all people.

I would also like the business community to recognize and embrace the pillars of WeBA. These pillars are; Connection, Education, Prosperity, Advocacy and Promotion, They are harmonized into all WeBA events and I encourage your fellowship at these functions.

The old adage of “May we be blessed with interesting times” could not be more relevant these days. Every possible challenge is hitting the business community; higher operating costs, cannot seem to find employees, supply shortages for goods and new levels of bureaucracy. In the post COVID world we have a new reality but I am confident, all of the current economic adversities can be overcome if everyone works together. Only through the support of your local business can everyone succeed. Support your local business. Think local and shop local.

Lastly, I would like to call on the members of the business community to become board members of WeBA and bring their expertise to this great organization. This engagement is essential for consistent growth and to maintain current perspectives for an everchanging demographic.

I am looking forward connecting with everyone at our monthly events, the Golf Tournament and the AGM. Thank you in advance for another fantastic year!
